Track development continues
The track development team’s task is to develop a grid covering the full sanctuary at a 100m spacing for pest eradication and monitoring and public access. They are halfway through the challenge with over 70km of tracks opened to date. Peter Hay reports that the recent bouts of stormy weather have kept the trackers busy dealing with slips and wind-throw. But they have found time to start constructing new access tracks for the weeding teams, which are addressing the necessary task of clearing weeds from a 10-metre wide strip along the proposed fence line – a requirement of our resource consent.
